For most of the models on Vector Art 3D we offer 3 different styles which can be seen below:
Style A - Raised |
Style B - Dished |
Style C - Recessed |
The benefit of these styles may not be immediately apparent simply by looking at them however there are a significant number of uses for each of these. On this page we will discuss some of the benefits and some potential commercial applications for each of them for more in depth information on product ideas check out the article on Making Money with Vector Art 3D. An important item to note is that if you purchase all three styles of an model at the same time then you recieve a significant discount over purchasing them individually.
Style A - Raised Our raised style is a standard relief model. If you use "artistic" design software then our raised models make excellent component pieces in more complex designs - as shown in the images to the right. As the model can be stretched and scaled in most programs it is possible to paste together the parts to make more ornate and unique 3D layouts. Some design systems allow you to utilize a library of models. For users of "artistic" design software having our high quality models on hand is an invaluable resource which will save a lot of time and money.
The Raised style can also be used as a component to cut as a product on its own. Depending on your industry and application you could use the model in different ways. For example, if you wanted to make large eagle for a decorative wall hanging then our Style A model would work perfectly. Or perhaps If you wanted to make a set of horse shaped earings then you would select the model you liked and cut the raised style. Most software will let you mirror the part as well so creating left and right sided part is easy.

The Raised model is also perfect for making applique or onlay parts. Take any of our designs, machine and cut them out and they can be added to another product. the parts can be added onto the surface or inlayed into the part. This is a very cost effective way to add a 3D accent to a product which is otherwise cut with more conventional 2D or V-carved methods. A real benefit of this is the time and material saving of only cutting one small part of a larger job in 3D. You still end up with a high end, high value product but for less time effort and material. If you are a signmaker then this is a great way to increase your customers order value without adding much production or finishing cost. Woodworkers can use the models to add decoration to a mantle, furniture, doors or any other finished products. It is very easy to cut multiple pieces at different sizesit to theme an entire range of products for your customer.
Style B - Dished Recess Style B models are completely recessed on a smooth curved dish shape. Vector Art 3D has developed a special process to drop the part in the dish and retain as much 3D as possible. The biggest benefit of this is that when you machine it all the model is below the surface of your material so it can be cleanly cut into any flat surface. Once you have sized the model in your software and created the toolpath then it is easy to cut into any product you want. The designs could be cut in their own right as relief sculpture to hang as artwork. We think that most users will find that they work best to easily add 3D decoration to another part. For woodworkers you can add clean classy machined decoration to cabinet doors, entry doors, furniture panels, table tops and many other products. Sign Makers can use this to add a 3D motif to a flat area of a sign. Other than easily being able to place it into a part the other big benefit is that relative to a standard raised part it will not require a deep cut to remove large amounts of material, so smaller tools can be used to create better detail.
Style C - Faux Hand Carved Recess Style C models are also completely recessed so they can be easily carved into a flat surface. This style iffers to Style B as it is designed to emulate an aged, worn hand carved part. This would most commonly be used in woodworking but may have some very interesting application and looks in other materials. Like the Style B models it benefits from being quick and easy to machine as there is less material to remove than if you were cutting a raised object. It can also be added as decoration to any component with a flat area. On the previews on the site this edge can look very strange and almost melted but it really comes to life and looks very realistic when carved into wood. We recommend trying one of these models if you are a woodworker to see how it comes out. If you work in a traditional woodworking application or deal in rustic products then we think this is a finish that your customers will really like. The process to create this edge is unique to Vector Art 3D. We have a special technique to recess the object maximizing the depth of the 3D area but also flowing smoothly into the flat plane.
To really see how the recessed models work and to see how good a quality our models are please download the Vector Art 3D Viewer so you can look at the specical "V3V" file preview models.
