Guide to Making Money with Vector Art 3D
Dimensional carved parts sell for a premium, especially if the design is something relevant to your customer or their business. Whether you make jewelry, woodwork, signs or anything else you will find a value in selling 3D products to your customers. As well as making competely dimensional parts there is great value in adding 3D decoration or accents to existing products to add personalization and value to them. This can often be simple to do and low cost as the machining time can be minimized.
Vector Art 3D products and services are all designed to take the difficulty and high cost out of cutting amazing 3D products with your CNC router engraver or mill. There are an almost infinite number of products and applications that our clipart can be used to make.
Offering dimensional products to your customers
If you already sell dimensional products then you should easily see the value of the models available on Vector Art 3D. Even if you own an "artisitc" design program and are an experienced user you would have a lot more time into creating the models than the cost of buying them. Our artists have a unique level of experience making artistic designs, which we can pass onto you at a fraction of the cost of making the models. None of the 3D models we offer are used without careful examination, clean up and quality checks so you can be sure you will get a high quality part when you download them.
If you do not currently offer dimensional products but own a CNC machine then you can get into 3D part production much cheaper and easier than you might think. You can download our free Vector Art 3D Machinist software and after this you would only have the cost of the models (V3M format) for the parts you wanted to cut. We also offer a Starter Collection of models for only US$99 which is a great seletion of parts to make samples with and use as your fiirst paying jobs. If you have 3D capable software then we recommend you look at our Software page to learn more about which format may work best with your software and CNC machine.
The low cost and high quality of our models means that most customers will pay for their purchase and make profit on a single job. This value to your business is very high even before you consider the amortization of cutting the part many times on different projects! If you do not own a CNC machine but would like to have parts cut for you please contact us via email email@example.com and we can help you source parts from one of our customers.
Selling dimensional products
The main challenge when selling dimensional products to your customers is ensuring they understand the relative value. Often it involves up-selling the customer from a more simple 2D representation of what they need to wanting a 3D version. The best way to do this is by using sample parts. Most consumers will find it hard to visualize dimensional products so whatever your application is you should make some samples to show the customer when discussing their project with them. A great way to do this is have a showroom or gallery or if you visit your customer create a case of smaller samples you can take with you. That way you can show them a variety of options and finishes. As well as showing them the finished product you can also show them a choice of 3D motifs that they can choose from. A great way to do this is the Vector Art 3D Viewer. This no-cost software lets you preview, rotate and shade models from this website in virtual 3D. Using this you can provide your customer with a choice of what they would like and also show them that your business operates with a high degree of technological sophistication. After the customer sees a flat part and then a part with 3D they will normally want the dimensional part and then its just a case of pricing!
Pricing 3D work
We cannot offer specific guidelines to pricing as our models are used in so many applications, there are some fundamental things to keep in mind when deciding on the price to your customer. When you price your part you should include the cost of buying the model, time for cutting it, any finishing required and of course a profit margin. Factoring this into your normal pricing process should allow you to provide customers with a price for a specific dimensional product or for the option of having 3D additions to their parts. With Vector Art 3D models we believe we can help to keep the costs to a minimum, making the sale easier and the profit margin higher.
Implementing dimensional products into your business
The first thing when starting to offer dimensional products is to decide whether you want to add 3D to your existing application or create entirely new products to augment and expand your business oportunities. Initially at least try to stick to applications where you have some experience or knowledge as it will make the transition simple.
