Vector Art 3D models can be used in many different software applications. Depending on your software you may be able to use them as design elements or you may be able to just carve the part as is. There are several formats available from the site depending what software you use. We encourage you to use our models in your current 3D software solution, if you do not have any 3D software you can still work with our artwork using Vector Art 3D Machinst
V3M files are our own special file format. They can be loaded into our own FREE software solution Vector Art 3D Machinst, Cut3D, Partworks3D and used as Components in Vectric's Aspire software. V3M is a special file format designed to make working with out parts extremely easy and efficient. When using it with VA3D Machinist, Cut3D or PartWorks 3D then It has an inbuilt boundary that means you can limit the machined area to save time and also create cutout passes around the finished part. Once imported into the software you can mirror, rotate (90 degree increments), scale and position the part. Then in a few easy steps create roughing, finishing and cut-out toolpaths. You can even preview the design in 3D before you cut it to verify the machining choices you made and avoid wasting costly material and time. When using a V3M file in Aspire it gains even more power as it can be imported as a 3D Component which can be positioned, sized, stretched or even edited to add shapes, remove areas or manipulate it using the interactive Sculpting tools.
Many other software packages support our STL format models, these can typically be scaled and then machined in programs like MillWizard or MeshCAM. Some software, like En Route Pro lets you use them as design components in more complex assemblies. The Relief (RLF) format models we offer can only be used in ArtCAM Pro but are a very versatile resource for users of that program. They can be used as great clipart components in more complex designs or just cut as they are for inlays or carved decoration.
The PTN (Pattern) file format is for use with the CarveWright Designer software which works with the CarveWright carving system. We do not supply this file format on our website but our models are availabel for sales through the CarveWright Pattern Depot here: http://patterns.carvewright.com
If you already have a software solution then we recommend that you download our free models in order to verify compatibility with your solution or call your software provider.
If you do not currently have any 3D capable software then you should research and evaluate each package’s features to identify which will best meet your requirements. If it is offered, use an evaluation version of the software to check for ease of use and compatibility with Vector Art 3D models. If you just want the easiest way to machine our models then we recommend downloading our free Vector Art 3D Machinist.
