Vector Art 3D is a concept which the owners of the company conceived nearly a decade ago. Andrew Holmes and James Booth (the owners and founders of Vector Art 3D) met professionally in 1998. James worked with 3D software and Andrew owned a company selling 2D clipart (www.vectorart.com) so it seemed obvious to them that 3D clipart would be a natural progression. Divergences of career/interests occurred until 2004 when James returned from a sabbatical in Europe and Andrew called him to ask if he was still interested in the idea of 3D clipart. The timing was perfect with the custom modeling company that James had just started (www.carve3d.com) and the recent emergence of economic CNC equipment increasing the demand for such a product.
So March, 2005 saw the creation of Vector Art 3D. The company’s focus; to supply very high quality dimensional clipart specifically for CNC production. From the start it was decided that the company would follow the same strategy as Andrew’s 2D business, that is to offer great artwork from a selection of artists at fair prices. The company looks to act as a method for artists to present their work to a wide audience and allow end users to pay a fraction of what the artwork would cost as an individual commission. As of March 2007 VA3D have a number of talented artists creating models and are looking to find many more. The founders of the company are closely involved in quality control, the creative process and are active in creating new content as well as producing custom work.
The Vector Art 3D library has grown slowly over the first two years to include over 300 models. 2007 saw the commitment to add new models increased dramatically; with over 30 new files a month being added. The Animal Collection 1 by Jules was launched at the end of 2006 and a great value Starter Collection added in early 2007. More collections are planned as well as a number of changes and additions to the website to provide even better service and information. To open up the technology to customers without 3D capable software Vector Art 3D partnered with Vectric Ltd. to make technology available to cut their models; the Vector Art 3D Machinist software is a free download and gives customers the ability to generate CNC code from the V3M format files on the site.
In a short time Vector Art 3D has becoming a leading supplier of dimensional CNC ready clipart and intend to continue to work on all areas of the business to make it even easier, more economical and fun for their customers to make amazing 3D parts with a CNC machine.
Vector Art 3D welcomes your suggestions and ideas for the site, you can email direct to the owners at info@vectorart3d.com.
